Become a dietitian that facilitates life-changing results.

As dietitians, we are trained to complete nutrition assessments, make personalized recommendations, and provide evidence-based education to our patients and clients.

And one reason we get into this field is because we want to help people improve their nutrition to increase the quality of their lives.

But the typical training does not adequately address the coaching skills needed to guide your patients through difficult health changes.

So we enter the real world with low confidence and less-than-optimal success in actually helping our clients change their nutrition habits.

Is a counseling class, a training on motivational interviewing, and a few weeks in an outpatient rotation really enough?

To help your clients more effectively, use the "Dietitian Coach Approach"

Accept and meet clients where they are today
Introduce them to mindful thinking and doing work that builds confidence
Define an intrinsic purpose for their well-being
Uncover their natural desire to be well
Tap into their innate desires and drives
Collaborate to address emotional and physical health together
Draw a personal wellness blueprint
Set realistic and achievable goals
Harness the strengths needed to overcome obstacles
See obstacles as opportunities to learn and grow
Build a supportive environment for success

Combine this approach with your skills and expertise as a dietitian, and you have a pretty powerful combination!

Why Founder Jenny Westerkamp values the "Dietitian Coach Approach"...

There’s a big lesson that I learned after working for 13 years with hundreds of professional athletes.

I was not excelling in my job unless the athletes actually did what was recommended. Sure, I could give someone a fueling and hydration plan, but if they didn’t see the value in it for themselves and didn’t know how to change in even the smallest ways, then I failed them.

This is why I quickly focused my professional development on coaching psychology, habit science, motivation, and behavior change. I had to ask different questions to my athletes. So instead of telling them what to do, I asked questions to understand their “story” and their past experiences. I guided them in cultivating intrinsic motivation. I showed empathy for their needs, strengths, and barriers. I reflected their words back to them to build trust. I helped them change, in a sustainable way that worked for them.

I left behind the “do what I say because I’m the expert” approach and adopted the “Dietitian Coach Approach”. Once I did this, the game (and my clients!) literally changed.

When I decided to “retire” from professional sports in 2022 and start my group practice, All Access Dietitians, I knew I wanted to make the “Dietitian Coach Approach” the magic ingredient in our client care.

To do this, I wanted to get the national board certified health and wellness coach (NBC-HWC) credential, so I started Wellcoaches training. I required every dietitian on my team to complete Wellcoaches training as well. This ensures that we can effectively use the “Dietitian Coach Approach” with all of our clients.

Bringing the “Dietitian Coach Approach” to the All Access Dietetics community was my next step. And Wellcoaches was the obvious choice given their reputation among health care professionals and my positive experience with the training. Their Founder, Margaret Moore has contributed research on health and well-being coaching effectiveness and is the Co-Founder of the Institute of Coaching at Harvard!

I truly believe this training can give dietitians more confidence, help them be more effective with their patients and clients, and as a result increase their job satisfaction. Dietitians that use the “Dietitian Coach Approach” will have more fulfillment when they can create more value in the lives of those they serve.

I hope you will join me in the Dietitian Coach Approach powered by Wellcoaches!
